I am hearing the song “Jolene” by the Beez (that is, Yo-lay-nuh)…. You are probably thinking, “but that one is by Dolly Parton!” And, you would be right. But, the Beez have given it a special twist.
This week we have focused on RSS feeds. I never really thought about their being useful until now. I do a whole lot of reading online at various places pretty regularly. Putting all of my reading into a centralized place would be a great timesaver as all of the tutorials for RSS say. They have it right, all right.
I have one lingering concern about the whole RSS feed arena. Once I set up my feeds, I may be less likely to actually visit the sites from which I get my feeds. I know that may seem odd… After all, if you click on a link in the reader, it takes you to the site. But, if I simply skim over the titles, if they are not attention grabbing, then I might not dig deeper. Oftentimes it’s the little things on the sides of the different websites that catch my attention. After all… if I would not have recently clicked through on an advertisement for the DIBA film festival, I would not have entered… I don’t think this is the end of the world. It’s just something to consider.
And, for that matter, that gives me a hint to make my blogs more syndication-worthy: good headlines. I must have good headlines. I want the user to click through to my content.
